Happy Tuesday friends! Today I want to chat about fitness. I feel like certain fitness fads come and go. I have done a number of different things to try and stay fit. After my oldest was born the Nintendo Wii was super popular. And so of course we had one and I can remember getting up before the baby and doing some of their workouts…on the balance board…do you guys remember that?! Well that didn’t last long. It didn’t really work for me. Then there was also a period of time when we had a gym membership to our local YMCA…our kids did every class they offered I’m pretty sure. So it was just a bonus that our membership included the gym. I would get up at 5:15 in the dark, in the cold, put on 15 layers to stay warm until I got to the gym and then immediately regretted all the layers. I only had so long before I had to head back home to be there when my husband left for work. I remember running on the tread mill waiting for someone to get off the other machine I really needed/wanted to use. Those were not fun days for me. I didn’t enjoy it. It was the biggest hassle. So that made me want to NOT workout. Time passed, now it’s 2011, the kids got a little older and my husband and I decided to try a “home” fitness program. Our first dvd set was Tony Horton’s P90X from Beach Body. We have been doing home fitness programs ever since. Just this year I got the Beach body on Demand membership. I just finished Autumn Calabrese’s 80 Day Obsession and loved it!! So much that I’m now in my second week of A Little More Obsessed! I love everything the program has to offer. Cardio and weights, and it works every part of your body! I totally get that home workouts are not for everyone. They can be pricy and sometimes you need another human standing next to you, motivating you to put in the work. I get that. That’s just not me. I would rather throw on whatever, drive no where, work out, immediately hop in the shower and be done and ready to tackle the day!
I am a self motivator and I work out for me. I want to be the best wife, mom, friend, etc. And in order for me to do that I have to have some self care every day. I physically, mentally, and emotionally feel better after a work out. There are 2 things in the mornings I do not skip…my quiet time (just me and Jesus) and my workout. Oh 3 things…and COFFEE (I don’t talk before coffee)! For me to be the best version of me, I need those things to get my day started off on the right foot. Now there are days where I am too busy to workout but those days are few and far between. I have a rule…my alarm goes off every day at 6a. I don’t get up any earlier. So if I am crazy busy and can’t get out the door, the workout goes. And for me, if I can’t workout in the morning, it just won’t happen. We are at the stage where we are running our kids around in the evenings, so I don’t even try to fit it in. Here’s a brief run down of my mornings (6a-9a): coffee, throw on a load of laundry, make lunches, get breakfasts ready, quiet time, take middle schooler to school, workout, take youngest to elementary school, shower, grab something to eat…usually a green protein shake. And this only happens during the week days. Monday-Friday. I take the weekends off to give my body (and mind) a break. I focus on the family and them all being off work and school! Plus our weekends are usually packed, ha! Since we are in the middle of our remodel…I have had to get creative to get my workouts in. It’s not ideal, but it works…so I just roll with it…for now.
So friends…figure out what works for you! Figure out your schedule and make something happen. Figure out what your mind, and body need. It doesn’t have to look anything like mine. But I truly believe, being active and healthy are critical for you being the best version of you! And if you have a workout you love, I would love to hear about it! Happy sweating!
